Wet Cupping
About Wet Cupping (Hijama)
Wet cupping, also known as Hijama wet cupping, is a form of traditional therapy that uses both suction and controlled medicinal bleeding. This technique is practiced by a trained wet cupping therapist who applies cups to the skin to create suction, similar to dry cupping. After the cups have been in place for a few minutes, they are removed, and a seven star needle is used. Cups are then reapplied to draw out a small quantity of blood. Wet cupping therapy is often used to improve blood circulation, ease pain, and boost the immune system. Many also find wet cupping massage reduces inflammation and promotes relaxation.

Benefits of Wet Cupping
Hijama is an ancient therapeutic practice that offers several health benefits. Here are some of the most notable wet cupping benefits:
- Improved Circulation. Wet cupping enhances blood flow, which can help improve organ function. This increased circulation is often associated with faster healing and better overall health.
- Pain Relief. Many people turn to Hijama cupping to manage pain, especially in the back, neck, and shoulders. The suction from the cups helps to ease muscle tension and promote relaxation.
- Better Immunity. By stimulating the immune system, wet cupping therapy can help increase the body’s natural defenses against diseases and infections.
- Reduced Inflammation. Wet cupping hijama benefits include reduced inflammation, a root cause of many chronic health issues.
Wet cupping is popular for these benefits and is used to treat a variety of conditions.
What to Expect From Wet Cupping Therapy?
Here’s what you can expect before, during, and after a wet cupping therapy session:
- Before Wet Cupping. You’ll consult with a therapist to discuss your health concerns and treatment areas. It’s recommended to be hydrated and to have eaten lightly.
- During Wet Cupping. Cups are placed on designated areas such as the full body hijama points, including the back, legs, or even the head and face for specific conditions. After creating suction, the therapist makes small incisions under the cups, allowing a small amount of stagnant blood to be drawn out.
- After Wet Cupping. You may see wet cupping marks and some bruising where the cups were placed. These are normal and usually fade within a few days. The areas might feel tender initially but should feel much less tense and more relaxed afterward.
- Post-Treatment. It’s important to keep the treated areas clean to prevent infection and to drink plenty of water to help flush out any released toxins.
Specific Areas:
- Wet Cupping on Head. This is used for relieving headaches or sinus issues.
- Hijama Face. Rare and specifically done for facial rejuvenation or certain health issues.
All in all, Hijama cupping therapy is considered safe when performed by a trained and licensed professional.
